Learn how first grade teacher Kristie Mahin will use her teacher grant at El Camino Creek Elementary!
Students will take part in the affirming experience of plant growth through hydroponic herb and vegetable gardens. Each student will watch their herbs and vegetables grow without the soil and pests that can often come with soil gardening. The year-round harvest will provide herbs and vegetables for first-grade families. This project will allow them to learn about water conservation, as these small gardens provide the perfect amount of water with very little maintenance, addressing the crucial need for water management knowledge. The countertop gardens will provide a perfect example of plant adaptations as well, giving the children first-hand experience in the nutrient/light/water balance needed to promote plant life.
We can’t wait to see what delicious herbs and vegetables will be grown by Kristie’s students! Encinitas Union School District #Environment #Leucadia #Carlsbad #Encinitas #Wastewater
