Effective September 6, 2023, a vacancy exists on the Board of Directors of the Leucadia Wastewater District (District).
The District is inviting qualified individuals to apply for appointment to fill the vacancy. The District adopted Ordinance No. 138 on January 9, 2019 implementing District based elections, and the vacancy is for a position that is within District 5 (orange area on map). The appointed director’s term will last until the next general district election in November 2024.

The District wants to remind homeowners and their contractors to properly dispose of the remaining pool plaster and to not pour pool plaster down the drain or your home’s cleanout. Proper disposal involves dewatering the concrete slurry and taking the hardened concrete remnants to a landfill or a recycling facility for reuse as aggregate.

In June, the District conducted smoke testing in Encinitas. During this process, non-hazardous smoke is pumped through sewer pipelines to private laterals. When properly connected, this smoke should flow out of the roof vents of businesses and residences. However if improperly connected, extra storm water can enter the sewer system. This has the potential to overwhelm the system’s capacity and lead to a sewer spill.
